Maria Wojtak : Poetic and Reporting Remarks on the Style of Podróż do Ziemi Świętej z Neapolu by Juliusz Słowacki
The article includes an analysis of various components of poetic descriptions and reporting elements combined in Słowacki’s poem (autopsy descriptions, subjective narration, assertive character) resulting mainly in the clash of précising elements and rich poetic means (lexical pietisms, comparisons, metaphors).
What makes it a poem of a unique style, however, is the formation of original literary communication, in which the reader is so activated in the report that he becomes not only a participating recipient but also a co-creator of the unusual narration.

Bożena Witosz : Meta-Text as a Style Determinant and Stylistic Strategy (Interpretation of a Meta-Utterance in the Short Story Kowal Kruk by Andrzej Stasiuk)
The author of the article, referring to traditions of theoretical-textual research, offers a description of stylistic functions of meta-textual phrases in a short story written by Andrzej Stasiuk, a contemporary Polish writer. She indicates ambiguity of theoretical descriptions of the meta-text, of exterior reasons (theoretical-methodological) and resulting from a vague character of the analyzed category. The aim of the research is to draw attention to various ways of locating meta-textual phrases in the structure of an utterance, a different way of their textual actualization and various functionalization of the determinant of the category (especially considering stylistic and pragmatic functions). The author claims that meta-text, except coherence function, serves persuasive function. It can be revealed by observations directed to discovering meta-text which is invisible on the surface of formal structure, which may be recreated in the form of interpreting hypotheses in the process of reading.

Stanisław Cygan : Functions of Floral Vocabulary in Stefan Żeromski’s Works
Floral world has an important position in Stefan Żeromski’s works. Floral vocabulary, represented mainly by species names of plants (trees, bushes, flowers, both wild and grown, water plants, 1-year plants, plants of the lowest level of the forest, moss, grass, corn, vegetables and fruit), their masses and morphological components (parts of plants), serves different functions in the writer’s works. Generally, flora is a kind of background for fictitious events. Their creation is connected with the character’s experiences and sensations (the so-called inner landscapes, a special %soul landscape’). It also becomes a hero of certain works like e.g. Puszcza Jodłowa, Wiatr od morza, Międzymorze, extracts of Popioły. Distinguishing functions of floral vocabulary is not an easy task as it requires analyzing them in individual compositions. A short characteristics of the functions of floral vocabulary in S. Żeromski’s writings includes the following types:

Monika Kresa : Theology and Literature – Comparative Analysis of Five Contemporary Translations of Psalm 23
The article is an attempt to make a comparative analysis and interpretation of five contemporary translations of one of the best known Biblical psalms – Psalm 23. Three of them are translations that may be considered as canonistic ones from the point of view of the Catholic Church, namely translations by the authors of Biblia Tysiąclecia and The New Testament and Psalms from 2005. Others are translations by Czesław Miłosz, Roman Brandstaetter and Anna Kamieńska, i.e. translators whose main literary works focused on poetry. Linguistic determinants of the translations have been analyzed here, influencing the form and interpretation of the Biblical text. Among the analyzed translations, Anna Kamieńska’s stands out as an example of how much translation formal solution, based on the author’s individual needs, can affect the reception. The comparatistic work also proves that a translation is a living, creative and individual work piece, not, as some literary theorists claimed, a minor and imitative activity.

Marcin Szymański : Can Vocabulary Research of Literary Works Give Any Significant Directions for Their Interpretation? (Based on Ziemia obiecana by Władysław Reymont)
The aim of the article was to present, by reflection on ways of using various capacities of glossary in Ziemia obiecana by Reymont concerning the quality of sensual perception by eyes, ears, how important the analysis of the language of a literary work is in literary interpretation, which has been underestimated by literary researchers. Discovering principles of using e.g. names of sounds by the writer in the “Łódź epos”, though does not allow to find unrevealed so far meaning levels, it makes significant shifts in the kernel of evaluation and characteristics of the writing. Consequently it shows the conceptual contents of the work in a new light and offers a different look at the author and his working methods.

Elżbieta Sękowska : Research on the Language and Style of Enlightenment Writers – the Main Trends in the Last Two Decades of the 20th Century
The article presents selected works on the language of Enlightenment writers with style as the major criterion. The works represent the following methods: an analysis of the most frequent words in the texts of selected writers; an analysis of linguistic means used to create a literary motive (landscape, seasons of the year); a description of qualities of poetic language of a given author or genre; general characteristics of literary styles of Enlightenment; reconstruction of lexical-stylistic awareness based on documents from the époque, which serves as an interpretation context of artistic language in that period.
